Against the backdrop of an economic situation which is a continuing source of uncertainty and concern for many, LVMH's first half results for 2002 are excellent. This achievement is the logical result of the fundamentals which provide the Group with an enduringly strong backbone: the exceptional creativity and quality of our products, the solid and diverse markets, in which we operate and our dynamic and highly professional teams. Excellent performance despite an environment which remains difficult. On the operating level, the world leader in luxury goods, LVMH, has achieved the best growth de son in its sector, especially when compared to the strong growth seen in the first half of 2000. In this context, attention must be drawn to the performance of our star brands, led by Louis Vuitton,and Perfumes and cosmetics, Watches & Jewelry business orour wine and spirit brands, has made considerable progress. Their success is at the root of our growth in cash flow and the increase in operating profit achieved by the Group. |

Increased cash flow and improved profitability
We are seeing a real improvement in profitability in selective retail activities, thanks both to the work of the DFS teams and a flourishing Sephora. From a financial point of view, a a number of non-strategic assets have been sold, as announced. Together with improved profitability in our business groups, Wines & Spirits, Fashion & Leather Goods, Perfumes & Cosmetics, Watches & Jewelry, Selective Retailing, these divestments have enabled us to significantly increase the cash-flow, as anticipated in our targets, for the first six months of 2002 compared with levels achieved in the first half of 2001. Outlook for growth Finally, we have good foreign exchange hedging which, in terms of operating profit, will balance out volatility in exchange rates between the three main currencies used in our markets. An exceptional pool of talent In all of our areas of expertise and business groups we have exceptional resources of specialized knowledge, ability and talent. |
