A daring collection
from Givenchy

For the Givenchy Spring/Summer 2010 advertising campaign, photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott turned their lens on the daring designs of Riccardo Tisci. The Givenchy Artistic Director created a highly graphic collection of gladiator-inspired pieces mixed with more sober, pared-down looks.

The first part of the collection showed pieces whose geometric shapes revealed their gladiatorial provenance. Meanwhile, the centuries-old "ikat" technique of painting and weaving was the inspiration behind total-look ethnic prints on blouses, jackets, leggings, sarouel pants and platform shoes.

The collection's other key direction featured pared-down designs in a restrained color palette. Striped jackets with structured shoulders were worn over geometric lozenge-front tops and fluid draped sarouel-type pants. The looks were accessorized with bondage-inspired leather platform shoes.
