JAPANESE INSPIRATION
AT LOUIS VUITTON

MENSWEAR F-W 2012-2013 : a retro allure with an oriental spirit…the Louis Vuitton show was an invitation to an imaginary dialogue between Paris and Tokyo. Kim Jones found inspiration in the pages of an old catalogue of a Japanese exhibition dedicated to 70s fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez. The looks ranged from traditional Western outfits to sportswear featuring hi-tech Japanese pieces.

The cuts and noble materials created luxury silhouettes, with coats tied around the body, plaid coats, nubuck leather jackets, or checked cashmere sweaters. Masculine elegance informed the oriental motifs on blanket scarves in cashmere and silk. Another recurring theme was Paris and Tokyo signposts on belt buckles.
