Red carpet
time!

Cannes is not only a film lovers’ heaven, it’s also a fabulous festival of elegance. From haute couture gowns that took hundreds of hours to craft, to ready-to-wear pieces from the latest collections, Givenchy, Christian Dior Couture and Louis Vuitton all focused their savoir-faire on their muses and ambassadors during the two-week event.

Close-up on some of the most spectacular gowns from our Houses that graced the red carpet this year.

Multiple Oscar-winning Australian actress Cate Blanchett was radiant in a Givenchy creation as she ascended the steps for the premier of How to Train Your Dragon 2. The dress from Riccardo Tisci’s Fall/Winter collection has a multi-colored bodice top entirely embroidered with sequins. Fiery Jessica Chastain also chose the Givenchy designer for her dress at the traditional amfAR Gala. Her long black strapless couture gown will remain one of the style highlights of the festival.

What do Marion Cotillard, Laetitia Casta and Jennifer Lawrence all have in common? The three movie stars all walked the red carpet in creations from Raf Simons’ latest collection for Christian Dior Couture. A debonair Robert Pattinson appeared wearing a Dior Homme tuxedo signed Kris Van Assche. These choices were repeated signs of confidence from the stars, whose aura is intimately linked to Maison Dior.

The universe proposed by Nicolas Ghesquière at Louis Vuitton won over several icons of the silver screen, including Catherine Deneuve and Julianne Moore. French actress Adèle Exarchopoulos, acclaimed last year for her role in La vie d’Adèle by Adbellatif Kechiche, wore a long black patent leather dress and immaculate white wool crepe dress with mirrored embroidery. The custom-designed dress was made entirely at Louis Vuitton’s Paris workshops. Charlotte Gainsbourg, one of the designer’s favorite muses, was the first to wear two of the looks from the Vuitton Cruise Collection, which was presented in Monaco on May 17.

Sophisticated or exuberant, the looks worn by the stars play a big role in the magic and glamour that make Cannes so memorably dazzling.
