LVMH patron of Bonnard exhibition

Organized with support from LVMH, the exhibition "The Work of Art, a Stop in Time" at the Paris Museum of Modern Art until May 7, 2006, offers a fresh look at the work of Pierre Bonnard. A choice of 90 paintings revisits four recurring themes in the artist’s work: the feminine nude, landscapes and terraces, interiors and still life, and self-portraits.

The thematic and almost serial approach does not come close to exhausting the meaning of the works, which strive "not to paint life, but rather to make painting come alive," said Pierre Bonnard himself. The primary subject, he added, "is the surface, which has a color and rules that transcend the objects."
