"Somewhere Else" exhibition

The Espace culturel Louis Vuitton is presenting its 14th exhibition, "Somewhere Else", until May 8, 2011. This edgy, offbeat event brings together 18 "expeditionist" artists, who create or install their works "out of the box"–somewhere else than the traditional venues for design and exhibition.

Both Olivier Leroi and the tandem Lucy & Jorge Orta are attracted by the fascinating continent of Antarctica. Mr. Leroi has created a flag in the colors of the local emperor, the emperor penguin that is… Lucy & Jorge designed and installed a utopian tent village for pioneers constructed using flags from around the world to form a symbolic territory that promotes the opening of borders.

Painter Fernando Prats draws on nature in his creations. Using canvases that have previously been blackened by smoke, scattered in a village devastated by the Chaitén volcano in Chile, he allows the whims of weather to leave distinctive tracks. Treading a path between exploration, adventure and engagement, "Somewhere Else" explores the different facets of travel as a creative process.
