Transforming the Louvre’s Cour Carrée into a train station for the occasion, Marc Jacobs presented his version of the Louis Vuitton woman as a romantic traveler. Stepping off a full-size functioning steam train built for the show, models showed a decidedly 1900s look, accompanied by their bellhops, handbags dangling. They wore woolen suits adorned with brocades, glimmering with reflective hologram-like trompe-l’oeil forms.

The Vuitton women exuded mystery beneath high soft hats and enveloped in jackets or cropped coats over superposed long dresses and pants. Large flower-shaped jewel buttons added a precious touch, joined by sparkling embroidery and multicolor cabochons inlaid in rich fabrics.

Micro-bags in exotic leather, doctor’s bags in dyed mink set off with a round rhinestone buckle, oversize bags in crocodile or chenille leather with the LV logo, hat boxes, smooth leather suitcases and precious pearl embroidered handbags combined to offer a tribute to the celebrated trunkmaker. The show was a fitting nod to the Louis Vuitton exhibition currently running at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.
