Wines & Spirits

Traveling is an important part of the job for Estates & Wines winemakers, who regularly criss-cross the globe to present their wines in international markets. Four of the estate directors took time out from their busy schedules to talk about travels and events.

Meeting opinion leaders

“Meetings with journalists, sommeliers and starred chefs give them a chance to discover our wines, as well as the context in which they are made. This brings them real insights into our savoir-faire and terroir. Wine is a very competitive market and they act as essential front-line specifiers. My role is to make sure they have a personal understanding of our estate.”

Herve Birnie-Scott, Estate Director, Terrazas de los Andes et Bodegas Chandon

Presenting the latest releases

“The Puzzle 2012 really expresses Newton Vineyard’s ambitious plans for the future. It was essential for me to visit our different markets in the United States to personally present this exceptional wine to our teams and to local buyers. Directly building trust and personal relationships are key to success.”

Robert Mann, Estate Director, Newton Vineyard

In touch with international markets

“While the Australian domestic market accounts for around 65% of Cape Mentelle’s sales, we are always developing international sales to key markets – Asia, the United States and the U.K. These trips are essential to gather feedback on how our wines are viewed in other countries.”

Cameron Murphy, Estate Director, Cape Mentelle Vineyards

Organizing memorable events for wine lovers

“Gala receptions and special events are part of the exceptional wine-tasting experience our customers around the world seek, letting them personally engage with our estate. Major international wine events provide an opportunity to meet them by taking part in high-profile wine auctions, as well as by hosting dinners and tastings for collectors.”

Manuel Louzada, Estate Director, Numanthia
