Since its creation in 1780, Chaumet perpetuates the Parisian savoir-faire of high jewellery.
An appointed jeweller to Emperor Napoleon 1st and unrivalled master of the Empire style, Marie-Etienne Nitot, the founder of the Maison, created for Empress Josephine and then for Empress Marie-Louise. He was commissioned for tiaras and official adornments as well as for jewellery of fashionable and sentimental inspiration.
The Maison’s savoir-faire has since then been passed on from one workshop master to the other without a break, bearing witness to the creativity and excellence.
The private mansion at 12 Place Vendome is the Maison’s headquarters and houses the design studio, the high jewellery workshop, the boutique giving on to the Salon des Diadèmes (Tiara Room) and the 18th century Grand Salon - a registered historic monument.
The historic collections, the hundreds of maillechorts, the thousands of gouache paintings and drawings, the photographic compose a unique archive fund in jewellery history, protected and developed by Béatrice de Plinval, curator of Chaumet museum.
Today, Maison Chaumet, presided by Thierry Fritsch, continues its international development as part of the LVMH group with approximately 90 boutiques located in the capital cities and urban centres of Europe, the Middle-East, Japan and Asia.
The new jewellery and watchmaking creations embody its exceptional savoir-faire.
History is the source of inspiration for the creation of emblematic collections such as the Joséphine rings that adorn the hand with a tiara or the Bee My Love jewellery sets and watches that feature the bee motif, an icon of the Maison.
They express the art of the language of love and the jewel’s emotional message: Liens, the symbol of the ties that bind friendships, families and romances. Attrape-moi… si tu m’aimes, represents the game of seduction. Dandy evokes masculine elegance while Joséphine symbolises the power of love.
In Septembre 2012, the High Jewellery collection 12 Vendôme was revealed at the Biennale des Antiquaires.
A responsible jeweller committed to ethical conduct, Chaumet has been a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council since 2005 and was certified in 2011. The Maison is also a supporter of the action to protect bees.
The internationally acclaimed French actress Sophie Marceau is the Maison’s muse. As heroine of the advertising campaign, she embodies the myth of the new princess.
