The Category Manager at Moët Hennessy UK builds strong professional relationships with key retailers to influence category assortment to meet shoppers & consumers' needs. You will be working across Commercial teams, Customer Trade Marketing, and Brand Marketing and you will have the ability to gain cross-functional knowledge and capabilities. You will be measured on your ability to drive category & brand growth by delivering shopper/consumer centric proposals. You will be responsible for developing retailer category strategies including creative solutions for optimizing the use of space in-store / online and in the on-trade. This role will be an integral role within the Moët Hennessy Consumer Engagement / Insight team. You will report into the Insight Manager.

Lead Category Management

  • Full ownership of the Category Management Strategy across the Off Trade / On Trade at Moët Hennessy to unlock category growth opportunities
  • Build a trustful , yet impartial, relationship with counterparts at retailers and gain category captaincies
  • Develop close working, relationships with the internal Moët Hennessy Commercial, Brand Marketing & Customer Marketing Teams. Understand all commercial and brand objectives and ensure regular communication between Category Management & commercial
  • Develop understanding of your accounts BWS strategy and identify opportunities to develop further category projects to help deliver the retailer and Moët Hennessy strategy ; Develop a triple win (shopper/consumer, Moët Hennessy, and Retailer).

Cross-retailer Category Management

  • Stay up-to-date with market, shopper & consumer' insights and trends & competition and share this within the business
  • Produce key seasonal reviews of Total Market activity and category performance in conjunction with Nielsen
  • Make data and shopper / consumer-based recommendations that allow the Moët Hennessy Account Managers and Marketing team to make informed decisions to develop range and merchandising recommendations
  • Provide Category Management support for ad hoc requirements highlighted by Key Accounts Team,
    g. new listings opportunity, Category introduction to buyer

Range Optimisation externally and internally

  • Lead the range review process both internally and externally with reference to macro level trends such as affluence, regional location and convenience impacting shopper & consumer behaviour
  • Analyse multiple sources of data to fully understand categories. Develop full understanding of Nielsen, and Retailer Specific Data Tools (i.e. Dunnhumby, Sainsbury's Insight Platform), Ad Hoc research studies, and use appropriate data to drive understanding of your account's shoppers and Moët Hennessy consumers
  • Take the lead in presenting range review recommendations to the
  • Use Shopper / Consumer / Category Insights data to review and identify risks and opportunities on an ongoing basis and present findings internally and externally
  • Build planograms supporting the Range and Merchandising
  • Lead implementation of range and space trials in stores

Strategy and Planning

  • Create an annual strategic plan for MHUK Category Management and support the brand managers on strategies as a part of the brand planning process
  • Develop the Category Management budget in conjunction with the Insight Manager and Brand Marketing team, monitor and track all expenditure
  • Report to the management team on key account, category and competitor trends on a quarterly basis whilst responding to ad hoc requests throughout the year.
  • Lead market pricing analysis making recommendations in conjunction with commercial planning




  • WSET Intermediate certificate (preferred but not essential)
  • Degree level education

Professional experience & know how:

  • Strong background and experience in Retail category development with an appreciation for luxury
  • A strong working knowledge of UK retail operations
  • Practical experience of the category management process
  • Experience of leading Range Reviews, Space Planning and Merchandising Projects
  • Account Management / Brand Management experience useful
  • Strong commercial skills and business acumen
  • A strong understanding of latest shopper/market insight techniques
  • Experience of Nielsen, Dunnhumby, Sainsbury's Self Serve and planogram software an advantage
