Cost Accountant

Marc Jacobs International, powered by the creative genius of Marc Jacobs, seeks a COST ACCOUNTANT to join the finance team based in its New York City (SoHo) headquarters. The Cost Accountant focuses on accurate accounting and reporting of gross margin and inventory valuation for operations in USA, EMEA and APAC regions.
The position reports to the Senior Manager, Revenue and Cost Accounting and works closely with colleagues in FP&A, Production, Supply Chain and Compliance teams. This is an outstanding opportunity for an accountant with 1-2 years experience in public audit or operations to come inside the industry in a key position. - Monitors and regularly reports on gross margin drivers, purchases of stock, significant changes in inventory and other gross margin related costs
- Develops standard costs supporting inventory valuation
- Calculates and justifies the monthly inventory reserves for damaged, non-stock and aged items
- Provides regular over-sight of and analysis on purchase price, return order and revaluation variances
- Completes journal entries within the MS Dynamics AX 2012 general ledger system
- Supports and enhances the internal controls of the organization, particularly focused on inventory reporting
- Provides a high-level of support for the annual physical inventory audits for each of the MJI locations
- Contributes actively to the continuous improvement process at MJI
- Reviews/maintains critical AX master data impacting accounting postings

- Should possess 1 year cost accounting or public audit experience ideally within an industrial or supply chain environment with preference for experiences in fashion, wholesale or retail industries
- Must demonstrate understanding of accounting principles, supported by an accounting/finance degree, with awareness of risks for reporting, audit or internal control
- Candidates should have an accounting degree while preference will be given for CPA or CMA
- Must have strong working knowledge of Excel (vlookup, sumifs, index/match, pivot tables, Excel tables) with strong preference for candidates with ERP solutions like: Microsoft Dynamics AX12, SAP or Oracle
- Excellent verbal skills (written/spoken) both for use in communicating and active listening
- Must be able to independently summarize data into a conclusion which can be presented to managers to make timely and well-informed decisions
- Must maintain integrity through-out work product balancing attention to detail without losing the big picture
- Provide support for ad-hoc requests from senior management, the FP&A team or the business operations teams; we view accounting as a customer service environment with many internal customers
