Position

The Senior Manager, Product Development, will manage the development of new products from ideation to execution, playing an active role in the creative development process from concept through launch, including concept development.  Reporting to the Senior Director, Product Development, the Senior Manager will drive the research, initiation, evaluation, development and follow-through of new product launches.

  • Keep abreast of global competitive product launches and industry trends.
  • Partner with VP and SD, Product Development, Co-Founders and Global Marketing to define new products concepts that answer brand's needs and Marketing briefs
  • Actively participate in "Blue sky" brainstorming sessions with Product Development team and Co-Founders
  • Present proposals for creative and innovative ideas, trend/market review presentations and portfolio opportunities.
  • Manage product briefs review with R&D to finalize concepts, research and select active and story ingredients, and define the products feasibility and development parameters
  • Work with R&D to develop and execute innovative concepts, textures, technology and ingredients research
  • Work closely with VP and SD Product Development and Co-Founder to evaluate formula submissions and provide feedback and re-directs to R&D. Select submissions to be presented to Marketing.
  • Manage the development budget in partnership with SD Product Development
  • Attend briefing sessions with cross-functional team members on product reviews, timelines and launch plans.
  • Ensure that cost of goods meet given cost targets during Product Development, in accordance with the brand's strategy and goals
  • Define testing needs and create content (questionnaires), and manage product testing execution (safety, efficacy, consumer panels, etc...) and timing associated
  • Work with the project management team to review all timelines for accuracy and to adapt timing as needed per project. Ensure that R&D is in alignment with project timing and has the most up to date timelines.  Manage project priorities to ensure launches are kept on target.
  • Manage with R&D to ensure key milestones for product development are reached on time in full.
  • Work closely with Marketing and Operations to ensure products are delivered on a timely basis.
  • Work closely with packaging team to help develop packaging options in sync with formula/texture
  • Work closely with Regulatory and Legal teams to ensure compliance of product formulae and claims for existing and emerging new markets
  • Work closely with Quality team to define quality standards
  • Write and publish Product Profile defining full concept, product features, benefits/claims, and keys ingredients and present it along with the product to Marketing, Education & Training teams
  • Partner with Storytelling, Marketing & Education in reviewing copy for packaging, marketing collateral and training materials
  • Identify products that need to be reformulated or discontinued and manage reformulation projects
  • Support PR team for press questions regarding formula, ingredients and efficacy

Profile

  • Seven plus years of industry related experience, preferably in multinational companies
  • Experience working in or strong knowledge of Asian markets is a plus
  • Master degree or equivalent is a plus
  • Proficiency in French is a plus
  • Good understanding of the cosmetic industry. The position requires experience in skincare product development with a good knowledge on cosmetic ingredients and regulatory environment
  • Superior product evaluation skills.
  • Must possess strong creative skills, and be a strong contributor to "idea generation" of new products
  • Must have clear and concise business writing skills and persuasive communication style. Be able to convey ideas in a concise and clear way.
  • Must be able to demonstrate good communication skills with R&D personnel, as well as all levels of management of Marketing, Sales, Education, Packaging, Creative, P.R. and Copy teams.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and manage a development effort, including ability to effectively coordinate the activities of cross-functional team members and to relate to people of different nationalities and cultures
