Louis Vuitton

Located along the banks of the Seine, the town of Asnières was ideal for transporting raw materials by boat, especially the poplar wood used for Vuitton trunks, and by train, as it was near the first train lines into Saint-Lazare in Paris.

As a sponsor and lover of art, Georges-Louis Vuitton commissioned French masters of Art Nouveau to renovate the family home in the late 19th century. With magnificent stained-glass windows and period furniture, it has stood as the manifestation of Louis Vuitton’s heart and soul for over 160 years.

Passed down from generation to generation, a vast range of craftwork skills is required to produce a Louis Vuitton trunk, from woodwork designing the wooden shapes, to metalwork where artisans add the metal components.
