Jonathan Anderson

Creative Director, Loewe

“Meteoric” is certainly an apt term to describe the ascending itinerary of Jonathan Anderson, who was named Creative Director of Loewe in September 2013. The precocious designer earned a degree from the London College of Fashion before launching his J. W. Anderson brand at barely 24. With discreet determination he has since set about reinventing the codes of the Madrid house, a bright star in the LVMH constellation known for its exquisite leather craftsmanship.

Transcending the boundaries between women’s and men’s wardrobes, Jonathan Anderson’s ready-to-wear and accessories for Loewe are informed by the past, inspired by the present, and impertinently pointed towards the future. Each new collection rises to the challenge, the fruit of a collegial creative method where each member of the designer’s team plays a specific part in the composition.

The native of Northern Ireland splits his time between Paris, where Loewe’s creative studio is located, Madrid, the historic home of the House, and London, where his eponymous brand is based. This reach no doubt contributes to his resolutely plural vision of fashion. Our camera followed him during the intimate backstage minutes ahead of the runway show, an intense and fleeting instant when the public and media discover his creations.
