The Met’s Costume Institute is presenting an exhibition celebrating the creative career of Karl Lagerfeld, on view from May 5 through July 16, 2023. Fendi pays tribute to the inspired designer and friend of the house by supporting the exhibition “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” and participating in The Met Gala.

The five Fendi sisters hired Karl Lagerfeld in 1965. During the more than five decades that followed, the designer inspired and transformed the Roman Maison with his boundless creativity. “The bond between Karl Lagerfeld and Fendi is fashion’s longest love story,” says Silvia Venturini Fendi, Artistic Director of Accessories and Menswear.

A beloved friend of the family, the visionary designer left his imprint on fashion followers, the people with whom he worked, and the history of fashion. As a sponsor of the Costume Institute’s exhibition Fendi plays a pivotal role in this tribute, which reveals the designer’s extraordinary imagination, stylistic vocabulary and creative process. During The Met Gala, Fendi welcomed guests including Artistic Directors Silvia Venturini Fendi, Kim Jones and Delfina Delettrez Fendi, and Fendi Chairman and CEO Serge Brunschwig. They were joined by friends of the house, including Kate Moss and her daughter Lila Grace Moss, Precious Lee, Gwendoline Christie, Christina Ricci, Suki Waterhouse, Robert Pattinson and Fendi Korean ambassador Song Hye Kyo. Their wardrobes celebrated the expanse and wealth of Fendi’s fashion heritage. Delfina Delettrez Fendi, Artistic Director for Jewelry, wore a custom gown reprising a silhouette from the Spring-Summer 2023 collection by Kim Jones, featuring a print inspired by Karl Lagerfeld’s Spring-Summer 1988 collection.
