Hennessy has worked with French startup Neoline since 2020 to support its innovative business model of sailing cargo ships.
The initiative carries on a proactive commitment to sustainability that Hennessy has pursued for more than two decades.
Neoliner Origin, a 136-meter sailing cargo ship equipped with 4,200 square meters of sails, will sail from the French port of Saint-Nazaire to Baltimore in the U.S. each month, delivering 20 containers of Hennessy cognacs. Thanks to renewable wind power, the Neoliner Origin will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 to 90 percent compared with conventional cargo ships. What’s more, the ship’s reduced speed will mitigate impact on marine fauna and biodiversity.
This innovative initiative is a return to sources for Hennessy, whose first cognacs were shipped to the United States in 1794. By reconnecting with wind energy, Hennessy celebrates its maritime heritage while adopting forward-facing sustainable solutions.
