La Galerie Dior and the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation are presenting an exceptional double exhibition highlighting Azzedine Alaïa, a collector and admirer of Christian Dior.
Early on, Azzedine Alaïa began building a significant heritage collection in the utmost secrecy, reflecting the art of the greatest couturiers. Dior occupies a special place in this collection, which counts some 600 pieces that are now carefully preserved by the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation. Over a hundred of them are being unveiled for the first time at La Galerie Dior, emphasizing the designer’s admiration for Christian Dior and his successors, from Yves Saint Laurent to John Galliano.
In parallel, the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation is presenting a unique exhibition of works by these two “masters of couture” at its Paris venue. Curated by Olivier Saillard in collaboration with Gaël Mamine, this dual exhibition offers a new interpretation of the history of Maison Dior through the eyes of a discerning collector while also revealing a series of captivating correspondences between Christian Dior and Azzedine Alaïa.
Olivier Saillard, director of the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation, comments: “Christian Dior’s models testify to the never-ending quest that Azzedine Alaïa pursued with such passion. In search of the mysteries of dresses and the delicate structures that make vaporous petticoats ‘stand up’, he skillfully brought together the objects of his adolescent dreams.”
