Cover Louis Vuitton teams up with rugby legend Dan Carter for first Malle Vestiaire trunk

To celebrate the inspiring career of New Zealand rugby legend Dan Carter, Louis Vuitton artisans have created a unique trunk — the Malle Vestiaire. Reflecting the Maison’s historic savoir-faire, this exceptional piece encases a curated collection of the House Ambassador’s personal memorabilia.

Echoing Louis Vuitton’s iconic trunks, the Malle Vestiaire is crafted with noble wood enveloped by the emblematic black and silver Monogram Eclipse canvas, reflecting the colors of New Zealand’s world-renowned All Blacks rugby team. Metal clasps, closers, and rivets adorn the design’s exterior, accentuated by distinctive painted symbols including Dan Carter’s jersey number ‘DC10’ and the sum of the points he has scored at international tournaments overall — ‘1598’.

“On the occasion of the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, we wanted to create an extra-special object,” Dan Carter says. “This Malle Vestiaire holds all the memorabilia that symbolizes the amazing memories I have of playing professional rugby, while also paying tribute to Louis Vuitton’s renowned Art of Travel. I really can’t think of a better way for them to be displayed than in this beautiful trunk.”

The interior of the customized trunk displays three World Rugby Player of the Year awards, three World Cub medals and jerseys, his two 100th-test caps, a pair of his rugby boots, copies of his book “The Art of Winning”, and the Louis Vuitton rugby ball he created with the Maison in 2019.

Fusing the world of sports, contemporary details, and historic features— such as woven cotton straps — the Malle Vestiaire celebrates Louis Vuitton’s incomparable craftsmanship.
