Parfums Christian Dior first partnered with the Rencontres de la Photographie festival in Arles in 2017, sponsoring the Luma Arles archive program and its exhibition “Annie Leibovitz: Archive Project #1: The Early Years”. At the same time the Maison presented its first “Dior, The Art of Color” exhibition. Parfums Christian Dior returns to Arles this year with the second edition of the Dior Photography Award for Young Talents.
Parfums Christian Dior returns to Arles for the second edition of its Dior Photography Award for Young Talents. This unique initiative in the world of luxury forges links with the world’s top photography schools and encourages the emergence of talented young visual artists.
Developed in partnership with the ENSP photography school (École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie), this second edition welcomed young photographers from prestigious schools in France, the UK, the United States, China, South Korea, Japan, Mexico, Switzerland, South Africa and the Middle East.
The 11 students selected were given carte blanche to create a series of photos and/or videos around the theme of “Woman-Women’s Face” and the words “Color”, “Femininity” and “Beauty”. A Special Mention award has been added for the work that best embodies the theme of “Joy”, which has always had special resonance for Maison Dior.
On July 5th the Dior Photography Award for Young Talents was awarded to Gangao Lang, a student at the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts, during a ceremony at Luma Arles. The jury, including Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director of Dior Makeup, and Claude Martinez, President and CEO of Parfums Christian Dior, selected her work “Second Self-Introduction”. “Beauty is a global language that begins with a young girl with a dream and grows into a woman with a vision,” the young Chinese artist stated in talking about her inspiration.
Gangao Lang’s work and creations by the ten other young photographers selected to compete for the award are part of a collective exhibition at the Grande Halle in the Parc des Ateliers d’Arles until September 22nd of this year.
