RIMOWA has teamed with talented creatives from ten brands to launch “Vol.1”, an exclusive collection of 27 reimagined takes on its iconic suitcases and bags. Each piece unites a legacy of German engineering and the creative voices of leading contemporary designers.
With this collaboration, iconic products from the Original, Classic, Personal and Never Still collections are reimagined with an incredibly diverse range of ideas, techniques and materials. The famous grooved aluminum suitcase has been revisited with intricate embroidery, white locks, a denim cover, a blond hair wrap and a hoodie, among other singular iterations.
Ten brands joined RIMOWA for this adventure: 3. PARADIS, About Dreams, Ashley Williams, CLOT, doublet, ENFANTS RICHES DEPRIMES, Hood By Air, Ma®KET, Pizzaslime and Pleasures. The designers were given complete carte blanche, the only requirement being that the pieces still be able to function as a suitcase or bag.
The idea for “Vol.1” was formulated during the pandemic, when travel restrictions prompted people to share photos of their RIMOWA luggage being used at home. Inspired by this creativity, RIMOWA commissioned designers to bring their distinctive aesthetic to a selection of its emblematic products.
Proceeds from an auction of the 27 pieces on November 22 were donated to the COVAX Facility, a UNICEF partner that aims to ensure equitable distribution of vaccines in the fight against Covid-19.
