1. Job Summary
Own the overall Visual Merchandising vision and delivery of Louis Vuitton Pop-up and special projects across Mainland China, acting as the key VM owner from initial concept and business brief through to opening and in-life management.
The role is responsible for translating Central guidelines and China VM strategy into distinctive, immersive and commercially relevant experiences that strengthen brand desirability, enhance client experience and support business objectives. This includes not only ensuring excellence in VM execution, but also bringing a strong creative perspective, challenging ideas, anticipating retail and operational needs, and identifying opportunities to elevate the overall project experience.
As a key VM representative, the role works closely with Central team, Retail, Merchandising, Communications, Learning, Project, Procurement, landlords and external partners, influencing decisions through strong presentation, clear recommendations and effective stakeholder management.
The successful candidate will combine strong VM expertise with leadership, creative thinking and commercial awareness — naturally questioning whether an idea will work, how it can be improved, how it will be experienced by clients and whether it can be effectively operated by Retail teams. The role is expected to operate with a high level of ownership and independence, providing clear direction, constructive feedback and structured reporting to VM management.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. VM Leadership & Creative Direction
- Act as the VM owner for assigned Pop-up and special projects, providing clear VM direction from concept development through opening and in-life management.
- Translate HQ / China VM direction into compelling and locally relevant VM experiences while maintaining Louis Vuitton brand consistency.
- Contribute creative ideas and proactively identify opportunities to elevate the client’s journey, visual impact and overall experience.
- Review and challenge concepts, designs and proposed solutions with a strong eye for aesthetics, brand relevance, feasibility and retail impact.
- Anticipate potential issues and opportunities early, naturally questioning what will work, what can be improved and how the experience can be strengthened.
B. Cross-functional Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Represent VM confidently in project discussions and provide clear, structured recommendations to senior management and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Build strong partnerships with Retail, Merchandising, Communications, Learning, Project, Procurement, landlords and external agencies / suppliers.
- Work closely with Communications and other experience-related teams to ensure VM supports the overall launch narrative, client journey and communication strategy.
- Understand Retail operational needs, including customer flow, product presentation, back-of-house requirements and day-to-day store management, and incorporate these considerations into VM decisions.
- Influence stakeholders through strong presentation, communication and problem-solving skills, balancing different perspectives while protecting VM and brand standards.
C. Pop-up Concept, Space & Experience Development
- Lead VM development across spatial planning, product zoning, display, windows, mannequins, styling, lighting, materials and props.
- Review and challenge 3D floorplans, elevations and design proposals, considering visual impact, client journey, product capacity, operational feasibility and overall experience.
- Partner with relevant teams to ensure the proposed experience is both inspiring and practical for Retail teams to operate.
- Ensure VM solutions respond to the specific location, audience, commercial objectives and project context.
D. Project, Budget & Execution Leadership
- Lead the end-to-end VM delivery of assigned Pop-up projects, ensuring quality, timeline and budget objectives are achieved.
- Guide suppliers, production partners and installation teams while maintaining high expectations for quality and execution.
- Review quotations, manage VM budgets and work with Procurement / Finance to ensure appropriate purchasing and governance.
- Provide clear direction during production, installation and opening, resolving issues proactively and escalating key risks appropriately.
- Ensure the final environment reflects the intended concept and delivers consistent, high-quality Louis Vuitton experience.
E. In-life Management, Feedback & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor the Pop-up experience throughout its lifecycle and identify opportunities to improve visual impact, product visibility, client experience and operational effectiveness.
- Provide regular, concise and insightful feedback and reporting to VM management, highlighting key achievements, issues, recommendations and learnings.
- Use observations from Retail, client experience and business performance to inform VM adjustments where relevant.
- Capture project learnings and translate them into recommendations and best practices for future Pop-up and special projects.
- Share relevant market, competitor and industry observations to inspire new ideas and strengthen future VM approaches.
3. Profile / Requirements
Experience
- 5–8 years of relevant Visual Merchandising experience, preferably within luxury, premium fashion, beauty, lifestyle or high-end retail.
- Proven experience owning Pop-up, temporary retail, special projects or experiential VM projects from concept through execution.
- Strong experience working across multiple stakeholders and external partners in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
- Experience presenting concepts, recommendations and project updates to senior stakeholders.
- Experience managing suppliers, budgets and project delivery is highly preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and ownership: able to take full ownership of a project, provide direction and make decisions with confidence.
- Creative mindset: naturally curious and idea-oriented, with a strong instinct for what looks good, what could be better and what will create a stronger experience.
- Critical thinking: able to challenge ideas constructively and consider brand, client, commercial and operational implications.
- Strong presentation and influencing skills: confident presenting ideas and recommendations to senior management and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Strong aesthetic judgement: high sensitivity to detail, proportion, composition, product presentation and overall visual impact.
- Commercial and retail awareness understands the relationship between VM, client experience, retail operations and business performance.
- Excellent communication and collaboration: able to build trust and influence across different functions and levels.
- Strong project management: organized, proactive and able to manage multiple priorities and changing requirements.
- Hands-on and solution-oriented: comfortable moving between strategic thinking, creative development and on-site execution.
- Fluent in Chinese and English, written and spoken.
- Willing and able to travel frequently across Mainland China and support key installation / opening periods.
