Last week, the contemporary art world turned its attention to Paris. A look back at the exhibitions, collaborations and artistic initiatives presented by LVMH Maisons that marked these few days.
Since 2019, Louis Vuitton has invited contemporary artists to reinterpret the Capucines, an iconic piece of the Maison’s leather goods collection. The resulting Artycapucines creations are developed in collaboration with its artisans, bringing each artist’s vision to life through exceptional craftsmanship. At Art Basel Paris 2026, where Louis Vuitton is an associate partner, a retrospective at the Grand Palais brings together 14 artists to look back on seven years of creative collaboration.
Each artist approaches the Capucines through their own visual language, experimenting with color, texture and form. Embroidery, assemblage and sculptural techniques push the possibilities of leather, reimagining the bag at the intersection of contemporary art and traditional craftsmanship.
At the Grand Palais, the bags are displayed alongside the artworks that inspired them. The exhibition design extends this dialogue, with open crates, plinths and structures in brushed aluminum and cotton canvas evoking the transport and preservation of artworks. It also pays tribute to Louis Vuitton’s origins, rooted in the making of trunks designed to protect and transport precious objects.
The retrospective also showcases the latest Artycapucines collection, dedicated to Keith Haring. His dancing figures and graphic motifs appear on the bags, staying true to his instantly recognizable visual language. The creations are displayed alongside a Louis Vuitton trunk dating from the 1930s, signed by Haring in the 1980s, a reminder that the Maison’s ties with artists long predate the launch of Artycapucines.
The retrospective opened to the public on October 23, 2026.
