The lower galleries of the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris provided the setting for the Spring-Summer 2019 haute couture collection by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy. Titled “Bleached Canvas”, the collection embodies the Artistic Director’s philosophy of modern couture, broadening the distinctive Givenchy signature with an of-the-moment aesthetic.

Steeped in diffuse light, the setting for the show created a three-dimensional white cube framing the silhouettes on the catwalk. For the first time since becoming Artistic Director of Givenchy, Clare Waight Keller explored mini-volumes, juxtaposing them freely with flowing, flared constructions.

The collection presented a vision of powerful femininity in which sculptural curves meet graceful lines and the lightness of feathers, with pops of color in cobalt, vermillion, bright yellow or ultraviolet, contrasting with the immaculate décor.

Flowing capes and liquid satin offered a counterpoint to the transparency of tulle and organza. Lacquer finishes and embroidery modernized traditional finishes. The “glitter face” makeup by makeup artist Pat McGrath illuminated the faces of models with a constellation of sequins and crystals.
