Forty years ago in the heart of Napa Valley, Moët & Chandon founded Chandon California, the first wine estate established in the United States by a French champagne House. The estate’s grapes come from three vineyards, in Yountville, Carneros and Mount Veeder.
Among the highlights of the past 40 years were the opening in 1977 of étoile, the winery’s gourmet restaurant, as well as the expansion of its wine collection in 1990. A leader in the super premium sparkling wine segment, Chandon California is also recognized for the quality still wines it makes from the same three grape varieties used in Champagne – Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
Domaine Chandon California has played a major role in the California wine industry and the economic life of the region. The celebrated restaurant hosted a series of events to fete the ruby anniversary of the winemaking House and the Napa Valley region, and there was also a Bastille Day celebration. A special 40th Anniversary Cuvée has also been produced to mark the occasion.
