Chandon pioneers premium sparkling wine in China

Moët Hennessy is blending its savoir-faire with local expertise to win over more consumers in China, its second-largest market. Inaugurated at the end of June, Domaine Chandon China is a new 66-hectare (163 acres) estate near Yinchuan in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous region. This area of northern China near the Helan Mountains—the country’s third-largest wine growing region— has been designated as a protected area by Chinese authorities.

With this pioneering venture, Chandon China becomes the first House to produce premium sparkling wine in China. Employing the technical mastery of winemaking from France, this extra special sparkling wine is made according to the “méthode traditionnelle”. Chandon will use the two traditional Champagne grape varieties, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The much anticipated first vintage will be released in 2014.

The location selected for this new winery reflects the exceptional quality of  the terroir, as well as its close proximity to a clientele eagrer for high quality products. This local operation nurtures relations with the regional authorities and is well integrated within the local economy. All these factors augur well for the future success of Domaine Chandon China.
