International Day of Persons with Disabilities has been celebrated on December 3 every year since 1992. To mark this year’s event LVMH is proud to announce that it has joined the Global Business and Disability Network launched by the International Labour Organization (ILO), and to reaffirm the Group’s unwavering commitment to an inclusive culture that respects the individual differences of all employees.
LVMH offers numerous concrete examples that counter the major misconception that disabilities and luxury are incompatible. The Group cultivates differences in its quest for excellence, from products to services. This unique ethos is inspired by the diversity of talented people who guarantee the creativity of LVMH Maisons and their enduring success.
Support for people with disabilities, whether temporary or permanent, is a pillar of LVMH’s social responsibility policy and an issue that concerns everyone throughout the organization. In conjunction with 2020 International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Group is reaffirming commitment inclusion of people with disabilities, from recruitment to accessibility. This longstanding commitment marks another milestone with LVMH’s signature of the Global Business and Disability Network Charter launched by the International Labour Organization.
LVMH has been actively involved in fighting prejudice against people with disabilities for nearly 15 years. Talent knows neither barriers nor limits, and people with disabilities most certainly have no shortage of creativity, inventiveness or know-how. Quite to the contrary, they energize the efficiency of teams thanks to their talent, skills and experience.
The Group believes that recruiting qualified people with disabilities brings its Maisons an important asset in their quest for excellence. LVMH seeks to attract, retain and motivate talented people with excellent skills.
Considerable progress has been achieved in recent years. In France, at the end of 2019, employees with disabilities accounted for 4.5% of the total workforce, up from 1.8% in 2007. This momentum extends beyond France as well, reflecting proactive efforts wherever LVMH is present.
LVMH Maisons have been especially active in this regard in Asia and the United States. In the US, Sephora has rolled out a specific recruiting program targeting people with disabilities, who now represent 9% of the workforce at its distribution centers (30% at the Mississippi center).
Europe has been equally engaged. In Italy, Berluti welcomes interns and young apprentices with disabilities, while Bvlgari organized an internal event during which artists with disabilities spoke about their day-to-day lives and how disabilities impact their work as artists.
