Hennessy invited Australian designer Marc Newson to reinterpret the famous Hennessy X.O decanter. Months in the making, this bold limited edition amplifies the blend created in 1870 by Maurice Hennessy, which has remained unchanged since then and become a timeless icon.

Marc Newson and Hennessy have deepened their collaboration with a bold new design for the Hennessy X.O bottle. Considered the most influential designer of his generation, Marc Newson has had his work exhibited at MoMA in New York, the Victoria & Albert and the Design Museum of London and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. This is the designer’s second project with Hennessy after designing the decanter for James Hennessy Cognac in 2015.

With his contemporary take on the decanter, Marc Newson joins an impressive list of talented designers who have shared their perspective of the celebrated cognac, including Arik Levy and Tom Dixon. Emphasizing transparency, his design magnifies the intense amber hue and sensorial qualities of the blend. Marc Newson has updated the traditional motifs of grapes and leaves with straight lines, echoing the furrows dug in vineyards, the starting point for crafting cognac. Bold, modern and refined, the design “emphasizes the strength of the decanter’s shape, highlighting both the bottle and the contents,” he says.

To reinforce the spirit of Hennessy X.O, Marc Newson also created a transparent gift box, employing a cutting-edge manufacturing process.  The clear, ergonomic shape is fitted to the silhouette of the decanter, molded in a complex plastic used for the first time ever for spirits by Hennessy.  This technical feat by Marc Newson joins exclusive Hennessy X.O box creations by other prestigious designers such as Arik Levy or Tom Dixon.
