We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Working Student to join our Hardside Prototyping team. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the design and delivery of high-quality mock-ups and prototypes for various Product Development and Innovation projects. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and creative environment, contributing directly to the realization of innovative products.

Job responsibilities

Prototype Development:

  • Under the guidance of the Workshop Manager, execute and deliver hardside component prototypes in alignment with project requirements for Development and Innovation initiatives.
  • Analyze prototype requests, collaborating with requesters and the Workshop Manager to define and validate both physical and digital deliverables.
  • Assist the Workshop Manager in planning and organizing prototyping activities, including defining necessary resources (materials, equipment, personnel) and establishing project timelines and priorities. CAD (i.e., Rhino, Solidworks) knowledge is essential for the planning of various tasks.
  • Source and procure prototype deliverables, ensuring timely execution according to validated plans.
  • Provide support to the Workshop Manager on technical/functional concepts, material selection, and construction methodologies.
  • Fabricate physical prototypes, which includes tasks such as cutting, sanding, lacquering, 3D printing (or other rapid prototyping technologies), and assembling design mock-ups and hardside components.
  • Proactively contribute innovative ideas and suggest efficient solutions to enhance prototype deliverables, thereby facilitating informed decision-making in hardside component development.

Workshop Management Support:

  • Assist the Workshop Manager in the daily operational organization of the workshop, adhering to established processes and procedures.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Maintain clear and efficient communication with the Workshop Manager and prototype requesters regarding all prototyping activities.
  • Proactively engage with the manager and requesters to gather all necessary inputs required for fulfilling prototype requests.

Profile

  • Currently enrolled student in Product/Industrial Design, Engineering, or a related field (working student status required).
  • 1–3+ years of experience in prototyping, model making, or workshop fabrication, preferably within a product design or industrial setting (student-level experience accepted).
  • Practical expertise in fabrication techniques, including 3D printing and traditional handcrafting methods; CNC machining and vacuum forming are a plus.
  • Strong understanding of materials and their properties, including plastics, metals, composites, and woods.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, CAD models (e.g., SolidWorks, Rhino), and design specifications.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in a workshop environment, with a safety-first mindset.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and translate rough design visions into feasible mock-ups according to the product brief.
  • Languages: Fluent English a MUST, German a PLUS.

RIMOWA
MAISON

It is not only the ambition to craft exceptional luggage but also the courage to question the status quo that lies at the heart of everything RIMOWA does. Since its founding by Paul Morszeck in 1898, RIMOWA has cultivated the pioneering spirit that is evident in every suitcase built. Inheriting his father’s visionary approach, it was Richard Morszeck who – inspired by the early days of aviation – discovered grooved aluminium as the ideal lightweight material for RIMOWA suitcases. A design classic was born. With the same ingenuity and courage as his father and grandfather, third generation owner Dieter Morszeck paved the way for RIMOWA’s global success. Thanks to his focus on state-of-the-art technology, uncompromising quality and timeless design, RIMOWA suitcases have become the global companion of choice for a sophisticated clientele. Today, with 3,000 employees worldwide, RIMOWA continues to combine craftmanship with precision technology and a commitment to courageous innovation, staying true to its heritage in today’s ever-changing world.
