During European Heritage Days, Maison Hennessy opened its rare cognacs workshop – the Atelier des Éditions Rares – in Cognac on September 20-21.

Generally closed to the public, this exceptional venue opened to give visitors a chance to meet Hennessy artisans and cognac experts. Located in the historic heart of the town of Cognac, the workshop is where iconic Hennessy decanters are personalized, a place infused with savoir-faire and creativity.

In addition to discovering this unique place, visitors also learned some of the artisanal gestures and techniques during thematic workshops. They discovered calligraphy on paper, echoing the markings on the barrels in which Hennessy eaux-de-vie are aged, wrapping the necks of bottles with delicate silk thread, a unique skill practiced in the Atelier des Éditions Rares, as well as application of the emblematic wax seals that adorn certain exceptional decanters. In addition to the workshop sessions there was a presentation of rarely seen items from the archives, including letters bearing the coat of arms of founder Richard Hennessy.
