Inspired by the notion of the ergonomic, the new collection by Nicolas Ghesquière forges the essence of form defined by function, to ease movement, to travel. A modern vision of the Louis Vuitton heritage embraces an ideal of lightness.

The Cour carrée of the Louvre welcomes a scenography as contradiction and rupture. Singular figures move incongruously, light as a feather or balloon, paused in a cityscape. Louis Vuitton’s ergonomic clothes are determined by the physique inside. Nothing is rigid, everything is fluid, revealing pieces with instinct at their root, engineered for action. Materialities and silhouettes are conceived in harmony, emphasizing curves and contours. The sensation of lightening and apparent simplicity conceal complex topographies, composed of surface tensions that mirror the body inside.

Ethereal cloth and leathers resemble a second skin through sensation and function. Fabrications defy physics with double and triple composite chiffons, or silk and cashmere scarf fabrics used across a spectrum of garments. Traditional tailoring is reengineered, internal layers removed in a process of reduction and streamlining. Knitwear delineates, while footwear seems to ground otherwise weightless forms. The surrounding inertia amplifies each gesture, revealing a dynamic human body, in life.
