Loro Piana unveiled the winners of the 9th edition of the Knit Design Award during an event on May 13-14 at the Casa degli Artisti in Milan.
Launched in 2016, this international competition celebrates the creativity of talents from the world’s most prestigious fashion design schools, inviting them to reinterpret the Maison’s iconic yarns through innovative knitwear pieces.
The theme of the 2025 edition, “Winter Legacy – Translating Linen into Heritage Knitwear”, proposed the compelling challenge of transforming linen, typically associated with summer, into a timeless winter knitted garment. Students were able to blend Loro Piana’s extraordinary yarns – Cashmere 2/27, Coarsehair, Wish®, Equilibrio, and Libeccio – to create silhouettes that combine technological innovation, elegance and durability.
Students from schools including Ecole Duperré, FIT State University of New York, the Royal College of Art and the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology presented creations that combined a choice of stitches, textile innovations and personalized dye hues.
The top prize was awarded to Morgan Boyce and Simone Rizzato from Accademia Costume & Moda, Italy, for their project "Paracadute".
Loro Piana also announced the extension of its traceability services to 100% linen garments, starting with the Spring/Summer 2025 Collection. A digital certificate registered on the Aura Blockchain Consortium platform is available via an exclusive webapp.
