The Frick Collection along Central Park hosted its first ever fashion show as Nicolas Ghesquière, Artistic Director of Women’s Collections, highlighted the unique dialogue shared by fashion and the arts. The event marked the debut of a three-year cultural partnership between Louis Vuitton and the Fifth Avenue museum, an icon of New York City in the Gilded Age.
Louis Vuitton Cruise Collections evoke the Maison’s spirit of travel and the discovery of architectural landmarks. The first look paired a denim outfit with a statement zebra belt, setting the rhythm for a celebration of artists. New York’s perpetually inspiring freedom feeds the magic that happens when Downtown attitude meets Uptown glamour. Plays of materials and color combinations create surprising tension, with pop-ish bright red blending into iridescent pink. Sculptural tailoring, including sharp collars and raised shoulders, reflects the meticulous attention given to the cut of garments.
Iconic characters created by trailblazing American pop and street artist Keith Haring become living canvases, adorning dresses, tops and bags. Overalls are rolled down and tied at the waist, paired with trompe-l’œil pants, bomber jackets worn over boxing shorts segue to eveningwear. Billowing sleeves are joined by elaborate cascading ruffles. Floral mini capes and hats add a theatrical touch to a Cruise Collection where contemporary creativity resonates with history and artistic beauty.
