Louis Vuitton Men’s Creative Director Pharrell Williams drew inspiration from India and its global influence on clothing for this season’s collection.

Cloths, cuts, colors and craft are conditioned by a connection to city, nature and the vitality of the sun.  With the Centre Pompidou as backdrop, the silhouettes walked a show set constructed in wood and hand-painted to create a giant version of the Indian board game Snakes and Ladders.

The spirit of travel infuses the new dandys, their clothes and accessories taking on a sun-faded and timeworn patina for a nonchalant elegance. Silks, leathers and wools appear sun-faded.  Innovative checks animate the collection, while stripes reference pajamas and suiting in graphic strokes. The lived-in softness and lightness of suits is set off by spontaneous layering. The association of heritage tailoring and mountaineering staples conjures an informal feel. Monogrammed shell suits, performance jackets and hiking boots express the versatility across urban and outdoor spaces.

Colors capture the subtle nuances of India’s landscapes. A purple blue replaces black, while a light beige becomes the new camel. Denim is dyed with a new coffee bean brown, a sober hue that reappears throughout the collection.

The animal motif originally created by Louis Vuitton for Wes Anderson’s film The Darjeeling Limited is revisited for the first time. Palm trees, cheetahs, zebras and others decorate new luggage and are hand-embroidered on exceptional pieces, including a cashmere coat. The feeling of life in motion is enhanced by the super-supple leather of Speedy bags.  Extraordinary trunks are painted with a dice motif or encrusted with stones, channeling Louis Vuitton’s foundational savoir-faire. The L.V.M. logo for Louis Vuitton Malletier is a discreet signature in homage to craftsmanship.
