Continuing its historic commitment to contemporary creation, Maison Ruinart is partnering with Chinese artist Liu Bolin for an artistic residency at The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands.
This unique encounter between art, nature, and savoir-faire embodies the House’s vision: to illuminate the world through creativity and invite everyone to perceive the invisible.
Known as “The Invisible Man,” Liu Bolin immerses himself in the spectacular landscapes of the Maldivian archipelago for a series of unprecedented performances and installations. The artist continues his exploration of camouflage, reflecting on the relationship between humans and their environment—a theme that resonates particularly with Ruinart’s universe and its deep connection to nature and its delicate balance.
On the occasion of the inaugural evening, the EAU Bar—the vibrant heart of the resort—was reimagined in the colors of Ruinart Blanc de Blancs, magnified by iconic bottles and adorned with two large-scale works from the 2018 creative collaboration with Liu Bolin.
Over five days, gastronomic experiences and tastings of exceptional cuvées—including Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs 2010, 2013, and 2007 in Magnum, as well as Dom Ruinart Rosé 2009—set the tempo for this gathering, with menus inspired by Liu Bolin’s artworks. A creative workshop and engaging conversations with the artist invited guests to gain greater insight into the connections between creation, nature, and visual interpretation.
On November 30th, the artistic residency culminated in a sunset performance: the artist’s body was meticulously painted to blend into the shifting horizon of the Indian Ocean, during the resort’s daily “Defining Moment” ceremony, thus giving birth to the 11th work in the Ruinart x Liu Bolin collection: ‘Elements’
Through this collaboration, Maison Ruinart reaffirms its desire to invite the public to rethink its relationship with nature and creation, true to its heritage of artistic exchange dating back to the 18th century.
