Veuve Clicquot has unveiled La Grande Dame 2018 Rosé, a cuvée that celebrates the visionary spirit of Madame Clicquot, known fondly as “la grande dame de la Champagne” among her peers for her many innovations.
Veuve Clicquot has cultivated L’Art du Pinot Noir – the Maison’s signature grape variety – for over two centuries. The precision and elegance of this delicate grape variety reveals the complexity of the Champagne region, reflecting Madame Clicquot’s enlightened vision. In 1818 she broke with tradition by blending carefully selected red wines from Bouzy, a Grand Cru Village, with her white wines, thus creating the first known blended rosé champagne.
The 2018 vintage marks the 200 years of this pioneering approach and is the 11th vintage since it was created in 1988, underlining the rarity of the cuvée, produced only in years judged exceptional for Pinot Noir. The year saw contrasting weather conditions that reinforced the depth and precision of the grapes. La Grande Dame 2018 Rosé expresses the subtle balance of Pinot Noir grapes from the Montagne de Reims, fully revealing their distinctive character.
La Grande Dame 2018 Rosé upholds the exacting excellence established by Madame Clicquot, who recognized the great finesse of her red wines from Bouzy, never wavering in her celebrated insistence on “only one quality, the finest”.
