Presented in the gardens of the  Musée Rodin, the collection by Creative Director Jonathan Anderson is a response to the work of American sculptor Lynda Benglis in the language of couture. The storied Dior Ateliers bring to life creations as experimental as they are boldly ambitious.

Often described as ‘frozen gestures’, Lynda Benglis’s sculptures seemingly arrest materials in motion. Haute couture offers a natural counterpart to amplify this aesthetic. Techniques from pleating and knotting to draping and embellishing make it possible to manipulate materials to resemble paper or even plaster. Iridescent and glittering metallic fabrics captivate the gaze, while delicate embroideries mimic Benglis’s use of paint and glitter.

The collection is informed by her Indian craft inspired works. Her Peacock series channeling the breathtaking plumage is interpreted in floral ornamentation with beaded embellishments. The motifs of the collection celebrate both Ahmedabad in India and Santa Fe, New Mexico, where the artist lives and works. Standout accessories include the Petit Dîner and Lady Dior bags, decorated with fragments of antique 18th-century chintz and indiennes. Jewelry features mother-of-pearl, rock crystal and carved green onyx, evoking the emeralds of Rajasthan. Each silhouette is testimony to the time and exquisite savoir-faire that go into the making, underscoring the essential artisanal gestures behind haute couture creativity. The show space is open to the public until July 12 during the exhibition Grammar of Forms, featuring pieces from the new haute couture collection, Dior archives, and works by Lynda Benglis.
