In a high-profile first that delighted Chinese fashion lovers, Dior held a sumptuous runway show on April 14 at the House of Roosevelt in Shanghai. Guests reveled in a décor that echoed the renowned salons on Avenue Montaigne in Paris. Ahead of the show, they enjoyed a presentation of photos by Gérard Uféras which captured backstage moments during preparations for the latest haute couture collection.

While a sextet played Brahms and Vivaldi, models came down the runway in voluminous skirts and transparent draped jackets. Their delicate and vaporous silhouettes won over the crowd of VIP guests who came from throughout China. The A-list included actresses Zhang Ziyi and Ni Ni, as well as multitalented artist Zhang Huan.

Dior’s first haute couture fashion show in China reflects the expectations of a demanding clientele that is intimately conversant with the codes of French luxury.
