LVMH sponsors exhibition on China

With support from the LVMH Group, the exhibition "Kangxi, Emperor of China" takes place at the Château de Versailles, near Paris, until May 31, 2004. The exhibition retraces the 2nd Manchu emperor, a well-educated sovereign and promoter of 17th century science. It includes 200 objects form the Forbidden City displayed for the first time in the West.

This selection shows the wealth of scientific and artistic exchanges that took place during the reign of Emperor Kangxi and in particular spotlights the fascination of 17th century Europe with the Celestial Empire. This infatuation was encouraged by Louis 14th himself, who made the audacious decision to send a scientific mission to China in 1684.
