LVMH sponsors Warhol’s exhibition
The "Warhol’s Wide World" exhibition has been organized at the Grand Palais in Paris thanks to support from LVMH. The exhibition, which runs through July 13, 2009, brings together for the first time a central element in the artist’s body of work, a dozen "commissioned portraits" of famous and not-so-famous people.
Seeking to restore honor to the neglected genre of portraits, Warhol proposed a picture of society as a whole, inventing a new systematic process of "serial" artistic creativity where his subjects had makeup applied before being photographed with a Polaroid "Big Shot" camera. Selected photos were then painted and silk-screened.
