The fifth edition of the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic took place on June 2d at Liberty State Park, right near Manhattan. A chic New York crowd was on hand to enjoy polo and sip Veuve Clicquot. Vanessa Kay, President of Veuve Clicquot U.S., co-hosted the event with actor Clive Owen, polo champion Nacho Figueras, and his wife, Delfina Blaquier.
Cheered by fashionable spectators watching from under Cliquot yellow parasols, Nacho Figueras led his Black Watch team to victory over team Nespresso. “Playing at Liberty State Park, where polo has never been played, is very exciting,” he said prior to the event.
This year the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic benefited Work to Ride, a Philadelphia non-profit community program that aids disadvantaged urban youth through activities centered on horsemanship to develop confidence and responsibility, accompanied by academic support.
This initiative proved a great way to share the magic of the sport of kings…and the king of sports.
