As construction work on the Fondation Louis Vuitton pour la créativité began in 2007, the Jardin d’Acclimatation launched a landscaping program overseen by Philippe Deliau (Alep landscaping design firm), working in collaboration with the Paris municipal parks and gardens department.
The objective was quite straightforward: give a contemporary makeover to the paths, groves and lawns while respecting the spirit of the exceptional quartet mandated by Napoleon III to create the park in 1860: the prefect Baron Haussmann, architect Gabriel Davioud, engineer Jean-Charles Alphan and landscape architect Jean-Pierre Barillet-Deschamps.
This December, some 82 Cappadoce maple, walnut, red oak, Virginia tulip poplar and linden trees were planted. The wooded area around the new central clearing becomes a “green mirror”, designed to reflect in the glass sails of the Foundation. It will be open to visitors in March 2013.
The vast, tranquil promenade will be punctuated by play areas, benches and drinking fountains. The nearby restored bandstand will host a varied program of concerts. This initiative marks a fresh stage in the positive momentum shaping the new Jardin d’Acclimatation.
